A dog who is learning a precise place command does not always need the same surface area as a dog who will sleep on the platform for hours. The MARK 18 creates a compact 18-by-18-inch destination for toy dogs, puppies, and focused initial discipline work. Its six-inch height keeps the boundary visible without placing a tiny dog a full foot above the floor.
The 2-by-2 can be built six inches high for a small dog that needs room to turn over and sleep. At the standard twelve-inch height, it is also a useful training size for larger dogs. The 2-by-3 gives Pit Bull-sized dogs, smaller Dobermans, and similar dogs more room for both training and rest. The 2-by-4 serves larger dogs, while giant breeds, multiple dogs, and unusual proportions may need a custom conversation.
Breed provides context, but the calculator does not rely on breed alone. Actual weight, age, intended use, preferred sleeping room, and mobility can move a recommendation up a size or send it for personal review. That is especially important for mixed breeds, growing puppies, long-bodied dogs, and seniors who may not match an average chart.

Allow useful room
A toy dog can use the MARK 18 for a compact fit. If that same small dog likes to roll, stretch, or sleep in several positions, the six-inch-high 2-by-2 may feel better. Moving up a deck size does not always mean increasing the height. The lower option preserves easier access while giving the dog more usable surface.

Is the calculator’s recommendation guaranteed to fit every dog?

The calculator uses the information a customer can reasonably provide online, then identifies situations where a personal review is more responsible. If a dog falls near a boundary, the result explains the neighboring option and offers to send the full answers to Stephen.
Why can a large dog receive a MARK 18 recommendation?
The MARK 18 can be recommended for initial discipline or focused obedience work because that use calls for a compact, precise destination rather than a full sleeping surface. It is also the everyday resting size for true toy dogs. The result will make that distinction clear. A larger dog receiving the MARK 18 for early place work may still need a 2-by-2, 2-by-3, or 2-by-4 if the platform will also be used for extended rest.
Why is the small-dog 2-by-2 only six inches high?
A small dog may need more surface area without needing the standard twelve-inch elevation. Building the 2-by-2 at six inches allows room to turn, roll, and sleep while keeping the step-up closer to the MARK 18. Larger dogs using the 2-by-2 for training receive the standard twelve-inch height. The 2-by-3 and 2-by-4 are also shown at the standard twelve-inch height unless a personal custom review determines that a different solution is appropriate.
What happens with a growing puppy or mixed breed?
A puppy can receive the MARK 18 for initial discipline and early obedience. When sleeping or long-term use matters, an expected adult weight helps estimate the size the puppy can grow into. A mixed breed can be calculated from current weight, life stage, intended use, room preference, and mobility even when the exact ancestry is unknown. If the adult size is uncertain or the dog has unusual proportions, the expert form carries those details forward for a personal recommendation.
